Meta abandons $2 billion Manus AI acquisition after Chinese government pressure

Meta has initiated the cancellation of its $2 billion acquisition of Chinese AI startup Butterfly Effect, developer of the AI agent Manus, following a forced divestment order from the Chinese government citing national security concerns. The company has completed operational separation and blocked access to Manus within its internal projects.
