Java’s biggest language change in a decade is finally landing. It took 197,000 lines of code.

Java Enhancement Proposal 401, introducing value classes and objects, will be integrated into OpenJDK mainline for JDK 28. The change is part of Project Valhalla, a long-running effort to address Java's performance limitations. Architect Brian Goetz warned it will likely still be in preview for the next LTS release.
